ATWATER VILLAGE NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL AMENDS BYLAWS TO HELP CURB CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM AMONG ELECTED BOARD MEMBERS
The Atwater Village Neighborhood Council (AVNC) has amended its bylaws to help curtail widespread absenteeism among elected Board members. Changes to the bylaws would allow the Board to remove any member for failing to attend five (5) regularly scheduled meetings within a “council year”.
Since January 2009 the AVNC Board has twice been unable to garner the quorum needed to take action by vote on issues before the Board.
Board members that have failed to attend most of the five (5) regularly scheduled meetings this year include Fernando Dejo-Grundy (absent 5 times), Lance Sandman (absent 4 times), Amador Solis (absent 3 times) and Lenore Solis (absent 3 times). This does not included the number of meeting missed by these board members since the Board was installed in October 2008.
The AVNC Board meets only once a month, on the 2nd Thursday of each month. The meetings are held locally at Christ’s Church in Central Atwater Village from 7pm to 9pm.
The new Bylaws are intended to curb absenteeism. The Bylaw changes facilitate the process by which the board can remove those members who miss five meetings within the “council year” and allow for their replacement.
