ATWATER VILLAGE NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL GETS THREE NEW BOARD MEMBERS
The Atwater Village Neighborhood Council gets three newly appointed board members. The new board members were appointed to their position on May 14, 2009.
Alex Ventura - North Atwater Village Representative
"Hello, my name is Alex Ventura. I have a BA from California State University of Northridge in anthropology and run my own business as a licensed residential mason.My wife and I recently purchased our first home here in North Atwater Village in January this year. While I had heard good things about Atwater, I was surprised to encounter a real sense of community here from the very start. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and never knew the sense of community that I feel here. In fact, after attending a town hall meeting out of curiosity, I found myself wanting to participate in the betterment of our community and learned there was a position open on the Atwater Village Neighborhood Council.
As a representative, my hope is that Atwater Village can become a safer place with strong community bonds, where diversity, creativity and happiness prosper. I have no background in community organizing -- just a belief that participation is the key ingredient to prosperity and human welfare. I see this neighborhood as I see the home I bought: It is classic Los Angeles -- beautiful, charming, and in need of TLC. Lara Pranger - Non-Profit Representative
"I am Lara Pranger and I have lived with my family in Atwater Village for just over a year and have joined the Atwater Village Neighborhood Council to actively participate in our local community. I am a co-founder of the recently-organized Friends of Atwater Elementary which is working together with the school administration to support and enhance the educational opportunities of all children attending Atwater Avenue Elementary School. I really love this community and what it has to offer and plan on doing what I can do to make Atwater Village more of what we all envision it to be."

Robert Smith - Central Atwater Village Representative
"Hello neighbors in Atwater Village. My name is Robert Smith, and I am a fairly recent homeowner in the Central Atwater neighborhood. I am a digital media/entertainment professional, having moved from Detroit in 1994 to work in film visual effects and quickly jumped on the Internet bandwagon. I'm currently head of post production for Live Nation Studios. In my past, I have been on the board of non-profits as well as having been part of several business startups.
Once I made Atwater Village my home, I knew I had to get involved locally to do my part to help make the neighborhood better. I was inspired by the passion of current co-chair Leonora Pitts-Gershman and others on the board and felt I should start here and see what I could do to help."
