These statistics will be as of March 28, 2009 (last Saturday night). While we are still heading in the right direction, remember that traditionally crime goes up in Northeast Area as the summer approaches, the weather gets hot, and many kids are out of school. So we will continue to talk basic strategies to prevent crime. We need everyone to help reduce crime!

Property Crime: Down 15.5%
Part I Crime: Down 13.5%
Homicide: Down 58.3%

• All crime categories except Robbery are down YTD
• We have been losing ground on violent crime due to increases in robberies and some aggravated assaults
• Northeast Area ranks 2nd (out of 21 police stations) in YTD crime reduction.
• Interesting article about LAPD crime reduction success in the LA Times today (lead front page story)
Neighborhood Crime Updates
Atwater Village
We had a gang-related homicide last night. A 19-year male was killed in front of his house. Homicide investigators are searching for witnesses to this crime as numerous shots were fired. If you know anyone with information about this crime please contact Northeast Homicide at (213) 847-4261. Anonymous crime tips can be texted by typing in "CRIMES" then "LAPD" followed by the message. These messages are encrypted and we do not know who sends them. Please pass along to your friends this method of providing information.
That's it for now. Take care Bill
