2008 Northeast Youth Job Fair

Hello community members,

At some point, we all received our first chance at employment with that one business willing to take a risk on someone with little work experience. Although most of us have outgrown our first, second, or third jobs, there are many local employment age youth who have not found their first job yet.

For that reason, the City Attorney's Office First Chance program is partnering with Jewish Vocational Service in addition to the Mayor's Office of Gang Reducation and Youth Development, Councilmember Ed. P. Reyes, Councilmember Tom LaBonge, Council President Eric Garcetti, and Councilmember Jose Huizar to create the 2008 Northeast Youth Job Fair. It is scheduled for May 10, 10am-1pm, at the Glassell Park Community and Senior Center at 3750 Verdugo Road.

As active community members, the organizing partners are asking for your help in facilitating access to the program. For example, organizations can help get the word out, or facilitate transportation of their youth members to the event. We can use volunteers as event staff, or business sponsors for the employer hospitality brunch. Also, don't be afraid to talk to us if you have other collaboration ideas.

For further information about how you can get involved, please see the attached information letter, employer outreach flier, and youth outreach flier. You can also obtain further information by contacting the Northeast Neighborhood Prosecutor Community Resource Specialist, Armida Bayliff, at 310-575-8548, or via email at armida.bayliff@lacity.org. We look forward to hearing from you.
