NEW AVNC BOARD OFF TO A PROMISING START DESPITE A SLIGHT BUMP
The newly elected Atwater Village Neighborhood Council (AVNC) Board was sworn in at their monthly meeting held on November 8th, 2007, at New Hope Chapel (2861 Los Feliz Blvd). The new board, elected this past October 6th, will serve two years with its term ending in October 2009.
The 2007-2009 AVNC Board includes 7 new members who have never served on the board before and 5 previously serving members. The new board members include Fernando Dejo-Grundy, Leonora Gershman, Phillip Alexander, Jenn Hoffman, Nancy Mejia, Roberta Javier and Bruce Fleenor. Returning and former board members include Ken Osborn, Tim Warner, Jeff Gardner, Christine Anthony, Lenore Solis and Luis Lopez.
The new board got of to a bumpy start with the resignation of Diane Serafino, owner of Woof Dog Boutique on Glendale Blvd. The newly elected Business Representative, Mrs. Serafino, who was not present at the meeting, had submitted her resignation via email to the AVNC Board on November 2nd. In her email she did not state the reason for her resignation but did express her appreciation for those who voted for her and her desire to continue to serve the Atwater Village community outside the AVNC. However, the new board got off to a promising start. At its first meeting the new board dove into to its responsibilities and enthusiastically began discussing and voting on various items on the agenda. The most noteworthy action taken by the new board was the selection of new officers. The newly elected board officers are Ken Osborn and Roberta Javier as Co-Chairs, Lenore Solis as Secretary and Leonora Gershman as Treasurer. The board also approved the following chairpersons of the various standing and ad hoc committees:

- Lou Archer – Government Relations
- Leonora Gershman – Budget & Finance
- Jenn Hoffman – Event Planning
- Christine Anthony, Lenora Gershman, Ken Osborn – Elections
- Mary Lou Watkins – Issues and Areas
- Tim Warner – Arts & Education
- Phillip Alexander, Lenore Solis, Tim Warner – Crime & Safety
- Jeff Garner, Luis Lopez, Phillip Alexander – Environmental & Land Use
