Glassell Park Improvement Association (GPIA) Supports the Melanie Winter Fund
Perhaps your life is one of the many touched by Melanie Winter. She runs The River Project, a small non-profit organization, and for the past 11 years she has been tirelessly working with communities to re-imagine the Los Angeles River and realize a better future for our children.
For the past two years Melanie has been suffering with a progressively degenerating hip. She’s been getting around with the help of a cane and occasional injections of steroids, but the pain has become unbearable. She needs a hip replacement. Melanie has no health insurance and with this pre-existing condition, she can’t get any.
An account has been established that will accept funds, 100% of which will be paid directly to the hospital and the medical professionals who will be providing her care. You can send checks in any amount to the address below, payable to "Melanie Winter Medical Fund" or find more information at http://www.hip4mel.net These contributions are not tax-deductible.
Many of us have known someone in a similar situation as millions of Americans have no health insurance. We recognize the need to address this inequity and support a single-payer plan and universal health care system. Visit http://www.onecarenow.org to learn how we can all help realize a better health care future for everyone.
If you have any questions, email them to: help@hip4mel.org. Please send contributions to: Melanie Winter Medical Fund c/o 304 S. Broadway #498 LA, CA 90013 On Friday, July 20th, those who contribute will be invited to join us in a community celebration and picnic with live music and a raffle at Rio de Los Angeles State Park.
If you would like to support the continued efforts of The River Project, you can now make tax deductible contributions directly through their website: www.theriverproject.org.
